Lately I’ve been writing a lot about TV shows. Today will be no different (maybe it is because of sweeps … or maybe I just watch too much TV). Today I’m writing about one of my favorite shows on the air – Chuck. Chuck is in its sophomore season and has proven to be quite an enjoyable series. Sure it maintains a certain level of hi jinx, but it is all part of the fun of the show. Unfortunately this is yet another show that is inexplicably

Gender Roles
My wife recently had an interesting post on her blog that I found myself rereading, and I feel the need to address the topic from a male perspective. To sum up, the issue at hand was women in business and the use or their “femininity” to get their feet in the door. My wife, being a modern, down-to-earth feminist, found this concept insulting and degrading (as did numerous commenters to her post) since talent and merit should stand independent of gender. And I agree with her. But working in the world (and happening to be a guy), I felt like throwing in my two cents on the topic. Read more “Gender Roles”
Senseless Acts of Apathy
As is probably evident to those who know me or read here often, I watch a lot of TV. And every year I must content with the fact that not all of the shows that I like end up getting carried forward. Sure, I will grumble and moan about these decisions, but usually I see the logic and take solace in some new material that fills the void. But today I was doing some research to see what changes I should anticipate, and I have to say that I’m not happy with what I’ve read. Read more “Senseless Acts of Apathy”
Applefication

Apple is surrounding me. It seems like almost every other day, someone else around me buys some Apple product. At the current rate, it won’t be long before everyone around me is using all Apple products. So far I’ve held my ground. But I can’t say that I haven’t been tempted (see my previous entry on the subject).
It started a number of months ago when my manager at work traded in his BlackBerry for an iPhone and his PC laptop for a MacBook. Then more recently a few of the Flash developers at my company switched to MacBooks. Then a month ago another co-worker got an iPhone. Then last week two of my friends from work switched over – one got a MacBook and the other an iMac – both for home use. Now my dad made the switch for a new job. As I sit here typing on my PC laptop, I wonder if there is any avoiding this slow trickle continuing to grow until it becomes a landslide. Read more “Applefication”
Home Alone
It’s quiet. Maybe eerily quiet. I’m sitting here in silence at my laptop – my only noise accompaniment besides the clicking of the keys and the slow cadence of my own breath is the sound of the washing machine wooshing upstairs. At this time of the night, that isn’t really that unusual – if my wife is still up, she will often also be sitting at her laptop typing away. But tonight I type alone.
The reason for this is simple: I AM alone. From basement to attic, the current head count in my house is one (counting me). This has been the population peak since Monday afternoon and will not likely be surpassed again until Saturday night. Why, you ask? My family has taken to the road. Read more “Home Alone”
