I Need a Hero

Two years ago Heroes was my new favorite show even before I saw it air.  Once it did, I was not disappointed.  The first season rocked!  The second season was only lacking in length due to the writers’ strike (which I totally supported, but also ruined my year of entertainment).  This season started on an interesting note, but has felt a little sour at times and doesn’t measure up to what I expect from it. Split Decision

As always, there are a number of new shows this fall.  And as usual, I try to give as many of them their due so as to determine which ones I deem worth my time to watch.  The known favs automatically got added to my DVR schedule as well as a couple I assumed I would like.  But one that has not yet made it onto the record list that I’ve found myself drawn into watching dispite my prejudices is My Own Worst Enemy. Appropriate Voting Age: 4?

In this political season, my wife has made a point to keep our 4 1/2 year-old daughter abreast of the high-level details – she is aware that we are soon voting for a new president; she knows who the candidates are; she even has some opinions of her own about what qualities a good president should have (in her words, a president should be able to do anything a mommy can do).  We are unapologietically liberally slanted and are pretty confident in where our votes will be going in November.  Read more “Appropriate Voting Age: 4?”

Small Town Problems

Smallville has long been a guilty pleasure of mine.  It is part of my super hero geek passion – the show is cheesy and a bit flat and predictable, but it is Superman so I forgive it.  Every season they do a great job at butchering new facets of the Superman mythos, but not being a purist in such matters, I forgive it.  I have not always been alone in this – I’ve known people who also secretly enjoyed this show and we would chat about it occasionally on Fridays, but many of them haven’t been as patient with the show as I.  So it seems now that I’m a fan alone.
