Today I lost a friend.  He is still alive, and we are still friends (I assume), but our relationship will not likely ever be the same as it was … well … as early as this morning.  This morning I arrived at the office, setup my laptop at my desk and, as I often do, walked to the office next door where my friend sits to chat while my laptop came to life.  I found him enjoying some music that reminded him fondly of a cruise he had been on last year (relevant as he will be going on another cruise in a matter of days).  We chatted about the music, discussed some work-related matters, and I departed back to my own office to go about my business.  The sad irony is that the song he was enjoying was one by the Sundays whose name is the title of this post.  Less than 30 minutes later, he had been laid off and escorted out of the office. I have been anti-Mac for a long time.  It isn’t a stubborn bias, but one rooted in a set of formulated opinions.  I am a flexible person and I’m willing to change my stance on things if given good reason.  Apple seems to be coming closer to doing so. (continue reading…)

I’ve been trying to pry myself bit by bit away from political writing – obviously it was at the forefront of many of our minds until a few days ago so it is understandable.  But it seems to have possessed too much of my time and my thoughts and has started to keep me from pursuing my other interests or allowing myself to be the light-hearted individual I traditionally tend to be. So I’ve been running/participating in a weight-loss contest for the past 10 weeks that ended yesterday.  Unfortunately I ended in fifth place which has no prize attached (started the morning in third, but got knocked out by 2 surprisingly good weigh-ins after me).  The good news is that I HAVE lost 15 lbs. in those 10 weeks and plan to continue the healthier habits I’ve developed as a result.  It will likely be a little harder not having the contest as a motivating factor, but hopefully other factors will help support my efforts. I’m fat.  No need to argue or reassure me otherwise – I have known that it is true and I have come to terms with it.  I’m overweight (and under-tall, but there is little I can do about that part).  But I am doing something about it.  The trouble is that it is not an easy thing to fix.
