Heroes & Villains

I already feel like a bad fan.  I should have had this written last night within an hour after the premier was over.  Instead I didn’t even start watching it until it was mostly over (of course I DVRed it and watched from the beginning, I’m not that crazy).  It has been a hectic week (month, actually) at work.  I didn’t get home from the office last night until around 10.  And after watching the 2 hours of Heroes – I opted for the moment to skip the opening red-carpet hour (who needs appetizers with entrees like these?) and I went to bed right after because I had to be at work this morning early for more insanity.  I digress.  I can probably write a whole post on this topic, but that isn’t really my intent at the moment. SNL: Cold Open Was Solid, Rest Was Luke-Warm

With rumors of an Obama appearance, this Saturday I found myself doing something I can hardly every remember doing – getting excited to watch Saturday Night Live.  Sure, I’ve enjoyed it from time to time.  I’m as big a fan of sketch comedy as anyone.  But never a die-hard fan of the show.  But having been watching weeks of telelvision this summer ripe with satirical potential (e.g., the Olympics, the conventions), I’ve been itching to see how the SNL crew might capitalize on some of this.  I was initially greeted with some of the political humor that I was thirsting for, but most of the rest of the show turned out to be a bit less pallatable. Who Needs a TV?

As I’m sure I’ve stated before, I’m a TV junkie.  I watch more of it than I should.  I can say more about shows I’ve never seen than most can say about their favorite show.  I’ve got my DVR programmed to record a dozen or so series’ this fall (with 2 kids under 5, I rarely get to sit and watch what I want, when I want).  And yet I’m now coming to find I may be able to cancel a number of those items in my queue due to Hulu. Fringe Rough at the Edges

Tonight Fox premiered a new drama by the name of Fringe – this new show is helmed by J.J. Abrams and stars a cast of numerous unknowns with Joshua Jackson playing a bit of an unknown element in the middle of them.  The show came backed with a ton of critical acclaim and has been heralded as THE pilot of the season to watch.  So I watched it … but I’m not sure I am ready to commit to watching it next week as a result. And the Gold Medal Goes to …

NBC!  So yeah, I’ve been wrapped up in the Olympics pretty much since they started.  I have never been big into them – every time the summer Olympics come along I say how I like the winter sports better and vice versa when the winter games arive.  But from the spectacle that was the opening ceremony, through the weekend coverage of cool sports I didn’t even know were in the Olympics, to the great selection of prime-time sports (swimming, beach volleyball, etc.), it has all been gripping – too much so.  One of these nights I would like to get to bed before 2AM.  But what I’ve really been enjoying is the excitement that NBC is fostering in me for the fall television season.
